What is a Socratic Dialogue?
There is a great article published by the Circe Institute (click here to read it) that describes the process by which Socratic Dialogue came into being. According to this article, the Socratid Dialogue is based on the Socratic Method, a form of inquiry and debate between individuals with opposing viewpoints based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to illuminate ideas. It is divided into two stages: Deconstruction and Remediation.
The Role of Socratic Dialogue in Self-Directed LearningI believe that the exchange between learners, the need to organize your thoughts in order to explain them to others in a clear manner, helps you understand what you think you know and develop a critical, objective point of view. One can learn from others by just realizing one disagrees completely with them.
Socratic Dialogue is used at the MPC via Epicycles, and we held 6 or 7 of these a week. |
